Dulcolax Indications

Dulcolax is primarily used to in encouraging bowel movements and relieving constipation. It may also be used for purposes other than those indicated here.

Dulcolax Warnings

Pregnant women should employ caution while taking this drug. It is not known to cause birth defects to unborn babies but prolonged use might trigger it to cause defects. Pregnant women should not take this drug without their doctor’s approval especially during the last three months of pregnancy. This drug may pass into breast milk. Inform your doctor if you are nursing a baby while taking this drug.

Do not administer this drug to children or young adolescents without your doctor’s consent. This drug might be too strong for children’s use. Do not administer this drug to children or adolescents with fever, flu, chickenpox or any virus infection. Advance aged patients are more susceptible to the side effects of this drug than younger patients.

Dulcolax is not advisable if you have any of the following medical conditions:

  • Appendicitis
  • Rectal bleeding of unknown cause
  • Colostomy
  • Intestinal blockage
  • Ileostomy
  • Diabetes mellitus or sugar diabetes
  • Heart disease
  • High blood pressure
  • Kidney disease
  • Difficulty in swallowing

Dulcolax Intake Guidelines

Dulcolax should be taken in exactly as described by your doctor. If there are matters that you do not understand, refer to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist and ask them to explain those matters to you.

Each dose should be taken in with a full glass of water to help soften the stools. Do not take in more or less than your doctor has advised and follow the instructions directed on the package insert.

Dulcolax Dosage

Dosage of Dulcolax should be obtained from your doctor. Dosage may vary from person to person with regards to a variety of factors, which include condition of the patients, age and others. Do not take in more or less of this drug than prescribed.

Dulcolax Overdose

Do not take in more of Dulcolax that what your doctor has instructed. If you have taken in more than you should, inform and your doctor and seek immediate medical attention or call poison control. Inform your doctor afterwards.

Dulcolax Missed Dose

Doses of Dulcolax should not be missed. If a dose is missed, however, take it as soon as remembered. If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed one and take the subsequent dose according to schedule. Do not take a double dose of this medication unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.

Dulcolax Side Effects

Dulcolax may have the following side effects:

  • Confusion
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Muscle cramps
  • Pink to red, red to violet, or red to brown coloration of alkaline urine
  • Skin rash
  • Unusual tiredness or weakness
  • Yellow to brown coloration of acid urine

Dulcolax may also have other side effects. Inform your doctor if you experience anything unusual while or after taking this drug.

Dulcolax Drug Reactions

Dulcolax may interact with the following medications:

  • Anticoagulant
  • Digitalis glycosides
  • Ciprofloxacin
  • Etidronate
  • Sodium polystyrene sulfonate
  • Tetracyclines

This drug may also interact with other drugs. Inform your doctor if you are taking any medication other than Dulcolax including over the counter medications such as vitamins, minerals and herbal products.
