Cardizem Indications

Cardizem is a drug used to slow down unusually fast heartbeats, treat hypertension or high blood pressure, and angina or chest pain. This drug could also be used in other purposes not mentioned here.

Cardizem Warnings

Talk to your doctor first before taking Cardizem if you have or have had an allergic reaction to any form of Cardizem, kidney disease, liver disease, and other diseases of the blood vessels or heart like sinus syndrome, aortic stenosis, congestive heart failure, heart block, low blood pressure, or coronary artery disease. In case you have the said conditions, your doctor might not allow you to take Cardizem, adjust your dose, or require you a special monitoring during the treatment with this drug. Cardizem belongs to the FDA pregnancy category C that means that it is unknown whether this drug could cause harm to an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor first before taking this drug if you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant during the treatment with this drug. Cardizem is known to pass in breast milk. Talk to your doctor first before taking this drug if you are breast-feeding a baby because this drug could harm the nursing infant.

Cardizem Intake Guidelines

Follow the exact instruction given to you by our doctor in taking Cardizem. In case you did not understand the instruction, do not hesitate to ask your doctor, pharmacist or nurse to clarify or explain them to you. It is advisable to take Cardizem with a full glass of water. If you are taking Cardizem in the form of extended-release like Cardizem CD, Cardizem LA, Cardizem SR, Cartia XT, Diltia XT, or Dilacor XR avoid breaking, crushing or chewing it. It should be swallowed completely. If it is difficult for you to swallow Tiazac capsule, you may open it and sprinkle the content into a spoonful of applesauce. Without chewing it, the applesauce should be swallowed immediately. A glass of water should follow it after swallowing to make sore that you consume the whole content of the capsule. To be able to swallow the applesauce without chewing it, make sure that it is soft and it is not hot. You must take the mixture immediately. Do not keep it for later use. If you are taking Dilacor XR and Diltia XT, do not take it in the morning with an empty stomach. To get the most benefit, take Cardizem on a regular basis. Make sure to talk to your doctor first before you stop taking this drug. Your condition might get worse if you stop taking this drug without the direction of the doctor. To monitor the development and side effects of this drug, your doctor might require you to have blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, and other medical evaluations during treatment.

You may obtain the dosage of Cardizem from your doctor. Follow the exact dose given to you by your doctor.

Cardizem Overdose

Some of the symptoms of overdose with Cardizem are dizziness, weakness, chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting, unusually fast or slow heartbeat, coma, slurred speech, and confusion. In case you experience any of the said symptoms, look for emergency medical attention.

Cardizem Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose of Cardizem, take the missed dose as soon as you remember but if it is almost time for the next dose, just skip the missed dose and take the dose that was regularly scheduled. It is not advisable to take a double dose of this drug.

Cardizem Side Effects

Some of the serious side effects of Cardizem are allergic reaction such as difficulty breathing, closing of the throat, swelling of the lips, and hives; unusually fast or slow heartbeats; jaundice or yellowing of the skin or eyes; severe dizziness or fainting; abnormal behavior or psychosis; and swelling of the legs or ankles. In case you experience any of the said serious side effects, stop taking Cardizem, look for emergency medical attention, or contact your doctor immediately. Some of the less serious side effects of this drug are fatigue or tiredness; headache; nausea, diarrhea, or constipation; numbness; flushing or redness; Insomnia and vivid dreams; difficulty in urinating; and rash. In case you experience any of the said less serious side effects, you may still continue using Cardizem but make sure to talk to your doctor. There is a possibility that some other side effects that are not mentioned here might occur. Consult your doctor if you experience any unusual or bothersome side effects.

Cardizem Drug Reactions

Some of the drugs that could affect Cardizem are another drugs used to treat the same or another heart disease or disorder, cyclosporine, cimetidine, carbamazepine, digoxin, midazolam, and rifampin or rifabutin. In case you are taking this drug, your doctor might not allow you to take Cardizem, adjust your dose, or require you to have a special monitoring during the treatment. Some drugs that could also affect Cardizem are not mentioned here. Talk to your doctor first before taking Cardizem if you are taking other medications like over-the-counter medicines such as vitamins, minerals, and other herbal products
