Mounjaro 7.5mg KwikPen is a once-weekly prescription injection used to help manage blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. It contains tirzepatide, a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist that belongs to a newer class of medicines called incretin mimetics. This medication helps improve blood sugar levels when diet and exercise alone are not enough.
Mounjaro is intended for use when lifestyle measures such as diet and exercise alone do not adequately control blood glucose. The KwikPen device is a prefilled, multi-dose pen designed for ease of self-administration at home. Each pen contains four fixed doses of the specified strength, meaning a 7.5mg pen holds a total of 30mg of tirzepatide (4 doses x 7.5mg), 0.6 ml each. Patients inject one dose per week, so each pen is designed to last for one month. This convenient dosing schedule helps maintain steady blood levels and simplifies treatment.
This medication is specifically indicated for type 2 diabetes and should not be used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis. Patients with a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or multiple endocrine neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2) must avoid this treatment. Always use Mounjaro under the supervision of a qualified healthcare provider. Mounjaro 7.5 mg in India is available through select pharmacies and online medical suppliers, with prices varying depending on the seller and location.
Mounjaro 7.5mg KwikPen is approved for:
Improving blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Used in combination with diet and exercise
May be used alone or with other diabetes medications
Note: It is not approved for weight loss or for use in type 1 diabetes.
Tirzepatide in this pen works like two natural hormones in your body. These hormones help lower blood sugar in three ways — by helping your body release insulin when needed, stopping your liver from making too much sugar, and slowing down how quickly food leaves your stomach. This helps you feel full for longer and can reduce how much you eat. All of this helps keep your blood sugar steady throughout the day.
Like most diabetes medications, this injection can interact with certain other drugs and affect how well it works or increase the risk of side effects. Inform your doctor about all the medicines you take, especially:
Insulin or sulfonylureas: When taken together, the risk of low blood sugar increases. Dose adjustments may be needed.
Oral contraceptives: Tirzepatide may reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills due to delayed gastric emptying. Alternative or additional contraceptive methods are advised.
Warfarin: May affect INR levels. Close monitoring is essential if you are on blood thinners.
Diuretics or antihypertensives: Sudden drops in blood pressure may occur, especially if dehydration happens due to nausea or vomiting.
Thyroid medications: Use caution in patients with a history of thyroid issues, particularly medullary thyroid carcinoma.
Always carry a list of your medications to share with your doctor or pharmacist to prevent serious interactions.
