Quick overview

Hepcinat 400mg is a prescription medicine used to treat chronic hepatitis C infection in adults.

Product Description

Hepcinat 400mg is a prescription medicine used to treat chronic hepatitis C infection in adults. It contains the active ingredient Sofosbuvir. Hepcinat is given to treat children three years of age and older with chronic HCV genotype 2 or 3 infections without cirrhosis or with compensated cirrhosis in combination with ribavirin. No evidence claims if Sofosbuvir is safe and effective in children under three years of age with HCV genotype 2 or 3 infections or HCV genotype 1 or 4 infections. Also, it is unknown if sofosbuvir is safe and effective in people who have had a liver transplant. This medicine should not be used alone. It should be used together with ribavirin or in combination with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin to treat chronic hepatitis C infection.

How To Use

Take one tablet of Hepcinat once daily with food. Take medicine exactly as your doctor tells you to take it. Do not change your dosing regimen unless your doctor advises you to. Please do not stop the treatment without first discussing it with your doctor. If you have a reason to discontinue treatment, talk to your doctor before doing so. For adults, the usual dose is 400 mg tablet each day. For children three years of age and older, your doctor will prescribe the right dose of Hepcinat based on your child’s body weight. Let your doctor know if your child has problems with swallowing tablets. Do not miss a dose; missing a dose lowers the amount of medicine in your blood.

Precautions

Before starting treatment with 400 mg, your doctor will perform blood tests to check for hepatitis B virus infection. If you have ever had a hepatitis B virus infection in the past, the hepatitis B virus could become active again during the treatment of hepatitis C with Hepcinat. When the Hepatitis B virus becomes active again, it may cause serious liver problems, including liver failure and death. Your doctor will monitor you if you are at high risk for the hepatitis B virus during treatment and after stopping the treatment.

Before taking sofosbuvir, tell your doctor about all the medical conditions, including if you:

— Have you ever had a hepatitis B virus infection

— Have liver disease other than hepatitis C infection

— I have had a liver transplant

— Have HIV infection

— Are you pregnant or plan to conceive

— Are you breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed

Tell your doctor about all your medicines, including prescriptions, over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal solutions.

Side Effects

The most common side effects of Hepcinat, when combined with peginterferon alfa and ribavirin, include nausea, headache, tiredness, difficulty sleeping, and low red blood cell count. Sofosbuvir can cause serious side effects, including slow heart rate and hepatitis B virus reactivation. Get immediate medical attention if you take amiodarone with Sofosbuvir and get any of the following symptoms:

— Dizziness

— Weakness

— Chest pain

— Confusion

— Fainting

— Lightheadedness

— Shortness of breath

— Not feeling well

— Extreme tiredness

— Memory problems

Talk to your doctor if any side effects with Sofosbuvir become troublesome or persist for a prolonged condition.
